This article presents the Number Line Metaphor as a practice-based psychological method for supporting psychological formulation and guiding psychosocial intervention planning in psychotherapy. The method uses a number line as a metaphorical structure through which clients identify and subjectively weight supportive (α) and constraining (β) influences affecting their present life situation. These influences are represented numerically to establish an individualized Life Line position, without treating the values as standardized psychological measurements. The method provides a visual basis for organizing subjective experience, facilitating therapeutic dialogue, identifying intervention priorities, and reviewing subsequent changes in circumstances and subjective appraisal. Illustrative cases from a practice base of 30 cases during 2025–2026 demonstrate its application across differing circumstances. The article distinguishes the Number Line Metaphor from the psychosocial interventions planned through its use and identifies methodological boundaries and directions for empirical research.
